elendenika: VasquezE(12/15/03 14:51:00) 5.14 Smile Time (бывший спойлерный топик) Первые новости о 14 серии Сайдзов я пока еще не получила, но их краткое содержание уже обсуждается на форумах: 5. 14 "Время улыбаться" ("Smile Time" ) Серия начинается с телевизионного экрана, где идет детское шоу "Время улыбаться": яркие краски, поющие куклы - одним словом, типичное "дети, станьте в круг, возьмитесь за руки..." Камера панорамирует с экрана на мальчика Томми, который завороженно наблюдает за куклами. Его мама в костюме официантки входит в комнату и проверяет у мальчика температуру. Очевидно, он болеет и не может идти в школу. Когда мама выходит из комнаты, одна из кукол перестает петь, и сосредотачивает внимание на мальчике. Кукла говорит, что он знает, что должен сделать. Томми встает, дотрагивается до экрана, и кукла начинает высасывать из мальчика его силы. Кукла с экрана смотрит, как мальчик падает на пол. Мама входит в комнату и видит сына: он лежит неподвижно с улыбкой идиота. ***************** Девочка Ханна прикасается к экрану, на котором Ангел и Ганн сражаются с куклами. Девочка почти полностью истощена, но неожиданно с экрана льется белый свет, и она падает в кресло - шокированная, но вполне вменяемая и нормальная (очевидно, потому что Ангел победил злых кукол). Первые мысли: Где-то я видела что-то подобное. "Дети шпионов"? Точно. Забавно, что телевидение берет на себя миссию предупреждения о вредном влиянии телевидения на детские умы. Действительно, никого из постоянных персонажей там нет, кроме дерущихся с куклами Ангела и Ганна. Я не представляю, как это будет снято. По первой прикидке это просто издевательство над героями - крутые парни дерутся с куклами. Если бы эпизод был комедийным - тогда понятно. Но судя по запеву, нам предлагают мрачное предостережение против разгалающего влияния ТВ на детские умы...

This is causing a lot of work on the sets, as they have to be modified to fit both regular actors, the puppeteers, and the puppets. The actual puppets could almost be called 'muppets', as it appears that the work will have a connection to Henson's Production company. My own speculation is that the work may be done by Henson's Creature Shop, which worked on series like 'Farscape'. Not a great deal more info on the plot, but a source also mentions that at some point Angel will be turned into a puppet. As a puppet, he may be actually be torn apart, and have to be 'put back' together again back at Wolfram and Hart. The show is your standard PBS children’s television, with an exotic set populated with a variety of puppets and cheery songs. As the boy is entranced by the audio and visuals, his mother wanders in and out, talking to her mother. The young boy has a cold/fever, and it appears that she wants her mother to watch him when she goes to work. When his mother leaves the room again, one of the puppets (Polo), looks out of the TV and talks directly to the young boy. Polo encourages him to touch the screen. As the boy does, the TV seems to drain the energy out of him. His mother returns to find him apparently dead on the floor in front of the TV, with a smile on his face. Later, a young girl is being drained. But as this is happening, Gunn and Angel are battling the puppets (we see this on the TV). The TV flashes a bright light and the girl is saved. That’s it. Very little to go on, but it appears to be shaping up to be a ’fun’ episode. Which isn’t that big of a surprise, as Mutant Enemy usually likes to throw a little lightness into Sweeps, before they continue on with the final seasonal arc. Though, the arc is certainly not as in the forefront this season, as it has been in the past. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ATS: More ’Smile Time’, Episode 14-15 Info I know it’s been quiet for a while, but I do have a bit of info on ’Smile Time’ that I can pass along. It’s possible that more info may break next week, but it’s going to be hard to tell (I have a feeling Joss is going to work hard on blocking info on this episode) Which may tie in with some info posted by SpoilerFix.com yesterday. They are reporting that one of the characters in the episode will be named Scott. He will be young, 17-19 years old, and appears in a club-scene with a bouncer and other young adults. This has led to ’speculation’ (and I stress speculation), that Scott could be Connor. To be honest, I have absolutely no information that would indicate that Connor would be returning in this episode. I don’t doubt the report itself that a character that fits this description will be in the episode, but it’s still to early to know anything for certain. Later, at Wolfram and Hart, Fred reports to Knox that 11 young children have recently been hospitalized after mysterious collapses. Meanwhile Nina, the werewolf Angel helped recently, arrives for her monthly confinement during the full moon. As Angel leads her to a secure cell, Harmony tells Gunn he filed the wrong document for a court hearing, which worries him. A moment later, as Angel locks Nina in her cell, she admits she now looks forward to seeing him each month. She asks if he’d like to have breakfast with her the next day, but he dodges the invitation. Later, though, Angel tells Wes about the awkward moment, and says he’s afraid to get involved with Nina because he can’t attain perfect bliss without turning back into Angelus. Wes says if there’s someone who can make Angel happy, he shouldn’t ignore it… which sounds like he might also be talking about himself and Fred. Just then Fred enters and tells them about the mysterious children’s epidemic. Fred says she can’t figure out what’s causing the kids’ symptoms, but Angel shuffles through photos of the affected children and sees they all have a TV on in the background… and that they all collapsed around 7:30 in the morning, while watching TV. A bit later, after Lorne tells Angel that “Smile Time” airs at 7:30, Angel goes to the TV studio, where he finds a passage to a secret room. There a man with a towel draped over his head sits limply in front of a large metal egg. The man tries to warn Angel away, but then the egg emits a blinding light that blasts Angel out of the room. When he picks himself up again, Angel realizes he’s been turned into a felt-covered puppet. Angel returns to Wolfram and Hart, and after his friends react to his transformation, they watch “Smile Time.” They don’t see anything obviously sinister, but Fred asks an assistant to tape it so they can analyze it later. Angel is so mad about his transformation that he wants to launch a full-scale assault on the studio, but the others calm him down and Gunn and Lorne set off to speak to the show’s creator, Gregor Framkin. After they leave, Nina enters Angel’s office, and he immediately ducks under his desk. She tries to talk to him, but he refuses to come out. She finally leaves and Angel crawls out again, but then Spike walks in and sees Angel as a puppet. Spike laughs and Angel throws him out, but as he does, the other employees see him, too. Finally Angel attacks Spike, but Spike tosses him off and into an elevator, which then opens in the lobby a moment later, revealing the new Angel to everyone there, too. Meanwhile Gunn and Lorne find Framkin (the man in the towel) at the studio, but when they say why they’ve come, Framkin refuses to talk with them. Frustrated, Gunn and Lorne finally leave, and as they do, we see that “Framkin” is really another large puppet, whose body is being worked by the show’s puppet, Polo, who then summons all the other puppets to an emergency meeting. At the puppet meeting Polo realizes that Angel must have found the “nest egg,” which is the source of all their powers. This means their secret is now in jeopardy, so they decide to stop draining children’s life forces one by one, and use tomorrow’s show to drain every child in their audience. Framkin, slumped nearby, rouses enough to protest, but Polo shoves his hand into Framkin again, making him wail in pain. Meanwhile, at Wolfram and Hart, Angel finally reveals his new self to Nina. She says she still likes him, but as she pats his felt, she transforms into the werewolf and yanks him into the cage. About the same time Gunn, upset after several recent mental lapses, meets with Dr. Sparrow, who agrees to make Gunn’s fading mental powers permanent if Gunn will help him with a legal matter involving a shipload of illegal drugs. Meanwhile Wes, Fred, and Knox analyze the “Smile Time” video, but don’t find anything unusual. Fred sends Knox home, and after he’s gone, Wes asks Fred about her relationship with Knox. She says she rejected his romantic overtures. She then notices that one of the puppets in the video seems to be talking directly to the camera during a group number. A bit later Wes and Fred explain to Angel that the video contains a magically cloaked two-way signal that allows Framkin to drain energy from the children in the audience. They also realize, from the strength of the signal, that Framkin may be planning a mass energy drain in the show’s next broadcast. Wes says he can find a spell to break the magic and free the previously afflicted kids. Then Gunn enters, mentally sharp once again, and tells them it’s not Framkin but his demon-possessed puppets who are the real villains. A few minutes later the group marches out of Wolfram and Hart, armed for puppet battle. A bit later, as the puppets’ show begins, Angel and his friends burst onto the set. As Angel wrestles with Polo, he orders his friends to activate the nest egg. Meanwhile Wes and Fred find the nest eggs and Wes begins reading from a long scroll, which causes the egg to open and flash its blinding light. Wes tells Fred not to look, and keeps reading. A moment later Ratio attacks Wes, and as they fight, Fred picks up the scroll and continues the incantation. At the same time the fight in the studio continues, until Angel and Gunn finally vanquish Polo and his friends. In the secret room Ratio finally starts to overpower Wes, so Fred pulls out a gun and shoots him, then goes back to chanting as Wes finishes off the puppet. Finally, as Fred reaches the end of her chant, the nest egg cracks and explodes. As it does, a young girl whose energy was being drained by the broadcast is suddenly released from its spell. A bit later Nina wakes in her cell, and reacts with horror to the bits of Angel’s stuffing all around her. Then Angel greets her, saying he escaped safely, and promising that he’ll be his old self in a few days. Finally he invites her to breakfast, and she accepts. Meanwhile Wes congratulates Fred on a job well done and starts to leave, but she calls him back and asks if he’s been sensing her vibes lately. He just looks blank, so she finally grabs him and kisses him. Куклы на экране велят ему положить руки на экран, вытягивают из него все силы и он падает. Позже в ВиХ Фред сообщает Ноксу, что 11 детей попали в больницу в бессознательном состоянии. Тем временем приходит вервольфша Нина из 3 серии - сегодня ночь полной луны, и она должна провести ее в клетке. Ангел провожает ее в камеру, а Хармони говорит Ганну, что он неправильно оформил документ для судебного слушания. Он беспокоится о своем состоянии. Когда Ангел запирает Нину, она говорит, что каждый раз с нетерпением ждет встречи с ним каждый месяц. Она предлагает ему позавтракать с ней на следующее утро, но он отказывается. Позже он рассказывает об этом Уэсу и говорит, что боится сблизиться с кем-нибудь, потому что момент чистого счастья превратит его в Ангелуса. Похоже, у товарищей восприятие работает как у того жирафа из анекдота. Дуют на воду изо всех сил... А висельный юмор в этом сезоне - и следовательно, в этой серии - я ВПОЛНЕ могу себе представить. Ибо он, сезон, уж всяко не страдает замогильной серьезностью, например, допилейского второго (и второй половины третьего). И нет, я не пропускаю мимо ушей того факта, что комизм и замогильность в жанре висельного юмора должны существовать вместе, а не по очереди. Но мы и это в пятом сезоне уже видели: достаточно вспомнить сарказм блондика в четвертой серии, прямо в процессе того, как его разбирали на части. А был ведь и "Номер Пятый" - кто-нибудь с чистой совестью может назвать его полной и абсолютной комедией? Да и в "Судьбе" было СТОЛЬКО намеренно ухохатывающих моментов даже в самом остродраматичном фрагменте с битвой... (Вспомнила бы еще Эндрю в "Ущербе", но там как раз было "по очереди").

Но не только называли, а кое-кто из Юзенетчиков и сейчас продолжает называть (еще эту сомнительную славу первооткрывателей делят товарищи из TV Zone и Starburst). Ну как же, Wacky Mexican Wrestl-eros! *с тяжелым вздохом* А "Баффи" - ну просто жуть какой подростковый сериал. И вообще, НФ и фэнтэзи - это для маленьких (или гиков-неврастеников с признаками аутизма...) Короче, ментальность "неважно как, важно что" живет и побеждает.

Ибо гик должен 1.Шарахаться от противоположного пола / не иметь у него никаких шансов. 2. Не иметь никогда никакой жизненной позиции, будучи глубоко погруженным в свою исключительно личную профессию, причем чем абстрактнее, тем лучше (компьютеры, математика, вавилонская клинопись – ну на худой конец вампирский канон ). 3. Испытывать глубокое отвращение ко всякому истэблшименту, в том числе – а пожалуй, даже и в первую очередь – к своему родному. Гики и «да здравствует король (президент, султан, генеральный секретарь, верховный вождь)!» - две вещи несовместные. 4. Не вращаться ни в каком обществе (и вообще предпочтительно не вылезать из подвала, кроме как за картошкой, если не может ее заказать по Инету) – за исключением таких же, как он(а), в специально отведенных для этого заказн... эээ, клубах по интересам. 5. Знать все о своем предмете, но при этом ни к чему другому не испытывать никакого интереса...

"Hey, Big Guy," he says, striding into the room as though it's his office and not Angel's. "Afraid I'm gonna need another car. The last one ended up in the drink." And then he sees Angel. "Spike..." Angel says. In that "I'm soooo screwed" tone of voice. "Look at you," Spike drawls. The funny is fast overtaking the surprise, and the corners of his mouth are starting to twitch upward. "SPIKE..." This time it's a definite warning, which of course Spike ignores. "You're a bloody puppet!" he says, and grins one grin which goes around his face two times. Next thing we see is Spike, bursting through the office doors into the lobby, propelled by Puppet!Angel. He lands hard on the floor, and there's a moment of wrestling for position. Spike is laughing, full out. Angel finally pins him, one hand around Spike's throat. Spike, still laughing, holds Angel off with a forearm to the throat. "You're a wee little puppet man!" he says, and Angel punches him. Spike just laughs, and Angel punches him again, harder. "Ow!" Angel has split Spike's lip. "That's enough," Spike says, still finding the whole thing a big hoot, and flings Angel over his head. Angel lands on his feet. "Angel," Spike says, getting to his feet. By now there's a crowd of W&H employees gathered around them, staring, mouths gaping. "What the hell happened to you? You look ridiculous!" At her desk, Harmony is staring, too. "You're a..." "SHUT UP!" Angel gives her a killing look, and coming from a muppet, it's pretty scary. Harmony shuts up. Angel turns, sees all the people looking at him in mingled horror and amusement. "What are you looking at?" he snaps, but no one answers. "Well???" Spike can't resist that one. "They're looking at the wee little puppet man," he says, nonchalantly, and dabs at the blood at the corner of his mouth. Puppet!Angel snarls and springs at Spike, catching Spike's arm between his jaws. Spike tries to get him off, but Angel isn't letting go. Spike smashes Angel into the wall, hard, but Angel hangs on, and throws Spike into an open elevator. As Spike and Angel go bashing around the car, the doors close. We can hear them whaling on each other. "Stupid...Limey...Piece of crap!" Angel says, and there's the sound of punches between the words. The elevator bell dings, the doors open, and there's Spike, slumped in the corner of the car. Puppet!Angel walks out of the elevator, straightening his coat. He sees all eyes on him, and glares at the gathered crowd. "Yes," he says, "I'm a puppet. But that doesn't mean you don't have work to do." He glares at them from under his very heavy eyebrows, and they all turn away and scurry to their duties. Spike gets to his feet. It's not as easy as it ought to be. Angel stalks back to his office. "Harmony," he says as he passes her desk, "Get me my call list." Harmony, still having trouble processing all this, stares. "Ummmmm..." she says, clearly not sure what to do. Spike walks to her desk, leans on it for a moment. "You heard the puppet," he says, and he is a very chastened vampire who isn't laughing any more. And in other news: Angel is just so cute when he's talking to Wes about Nina ("GET OVER IT!" he says. And, "Amen!" said I. <G> We get to see Puppet!Angel vamp out! Very cool! The end with Nina, when Angel offers to take her to breakfast, is cute. But he's still a puppet; he won't be back to normal for a couple of days. Another cute bit is when Angel is talking to Nina on her second day in the cage. He's come to show her why he was hiding under the desk, and he's telling her that he's going to be paying more attention now to what's going on around him, he's going to make an effort to keep up, blah, blah, blah, when a big hairy paw snatches him back against the bars. "Nina! No! Bad Nina!" he says. I really thought Puppet!Angel worked beautifully. Loved the power shot we saw in the promo, with Wes, Gunn and Fred walking in slomo behind Puppet!Angel carrying the sword slung across his shoulders. <G> -- Dori

elendenika: SanAnn(02/22/04 18:15:42) Эпизод Еще один эпизод, который оказался вовсе не таким веселеньким, как было заявлено в трейлере. Уже начальная сцена с ребенком задала тон эпизоду. Тут уж почище Джокера. Наверное, Джосс устал смотреть с ребенком шоу типа Покемонов и решил показать их истинную суть . После такого откровения родители сами станут страшиться веселеньких детских передач. Помню было еще шоу у нас по TV о какой-то зеленой улице (кто знает, поправьте меня), так уж очень герои со Smile Time на них похожи. Фред уж очень резво после долгих заигрываний с Ноксом обломала последнего и устремила свои взоры на вечно ожидающего, но непонимающего ее сигналы, Уэсли. Хмм, зная чем все это закончится, но не будем о будущем... И уж если речь зашла о сигналах, то сама не понимаю, почему в этот раз меня не взбесила Нина. Возможно потому, что она была очень непосредственна в своем желании затащить Ангелочка на завтрак. И в конце пошла с мягкой игружкой, которую чуть не сожрала. В любом случае, воспринимать Нину серьезно я пока не готова. После просмотра трейлера я была уверена, что этот эпизод будет еще одним оскорблением Энджелу, я ошибалась.

elendenika: VasquezE(02/24/04 03:26:25) Впечатления от серии. 1. Последняя улыбка перед началом серьезных событий. 2. Похоже, Нину привели только для того, чтобы Уэс прочитал Ангелу лекцию об отношениях (на фоне которой он выглядел особенно глупо на протяжении всего эпизода). Я понимаю, что им нужно было срочно вытягивать линию Фред\Уэс, потому что в следующей серии им уже испортят всю малину. А с такой скоростью (в рамках одной серии) можно было вывернуться только на комическим приемах - что и было проделано вполне пристойно, с учетом того, что они второстепенные герои. 3. К конце серии я поняла, что отдала бы все за сцену с плюшевым Спайком. Но подобный ход настоялько перекосил бы всю серию в его сторону, что, конечно, лучше было этого не делать.
