General News. Geroneja. (05/21/04 16:41:05)

Кристин/Ванда спросила Джордана Левина о том, почему они закрыли "Ангела", и вот что он ответил: "The big problem with Angel is it didn't repeat well," Levin said. "It wasn't growing its audience, but it was a show we loved. We adored that show. It was a really hard decision. Joss Whedon came to me in February and said, 'If you don't think the show is going to come back, I'd rather know it now, so I can end it appropriately.' When we looked at our schedule, with Charmed, 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, Angel and Smallville, we realized we had a lot of veteran series. And one of the challenges of any schedule is to let your veterans retire so you can make room for the rookies, like Jack and Bobby and The Mountain. It's a balancing act, and it's not fun. That was a sad day." ----- Marstersverse The Watcher's Library Buffy and Angel in Ukraine [off]ссылка на соответствующий топик оригинального форума Marstersverse[/off]

elendenika: VasquezE(09/07/04 12:05:41) Новости с кинофронта: Съемки "Венецианской жары" отодвигаются на конец октября. Это отрывок из письма продюсера фильма одной из членов форума Marsters Mobsters The true status is that we are in the closing process on the finance. All is in place and it’s just a question of jumping through the legal hoops so we can start spending it! The project is definitely NOT abandoned, though I think our shoot date is now more likely to be end October. Thanks for getting in touch – please look out for an official announcement in the next couple of weeks. Anyway here are the Spike/James bits. I think I've got them all but I may have missed a few. H David Boreanaz interview (by Tara O'Shea): "[Spike and Angel]are just the saddest [duo]," continues David, referring to the fan-favourite character who died in the Buffy finale but was ressurected to join the Angel cast for their final season. "They try so hard, and they can't quite grasp it. But they're so macho and cool. I would really loved to have seen more development towards that [relationship] this season. I had this one episode that I pitched which would have been really funny, and it's almost the kind of 'Some Like it Hot' thing, where James and I had to actually dress up as women. It would have been cool. I can walk in a pair of heels!" Amy Acker interview (by Abbie Bernstein) Working with ghostly Spike in the early Season Five episodes presented somem challenges Amy notes: "The did it all with [James Marsters] in the room. They had to lock off the cameras - the camera can't move on his coverage when he's fading, but he's actually there the whole time, so I don't get to see the visual effects. When I watched ['Hell Bound'] I was going, 'Oh, I didn't realise he would be that invisible there!'" Of the changes in format for Season Five, Amy says, "It's been really fun. It seems like it's been this way for a long time now - it's hard to remember that this is the first year that it's been like this," she laughs. "Having James there is great. He just was so excited. It was sad not having Charisma [Carpenter, Cordelia] and Vincent [Kartheiser, Connor] there, but Charisma came back [for 'You're Welcome'] - it was just like she hadn't been gone, so it was fun." J August Richards interview (by Abbie Bernstein) Gunn has warmed up to Spike somewhat J notes. "My character is not as vampire-phobic as he used to be, but because Spike doesn't like Angel, I don't like him. But now that I understand that dynamic better, I accept him into the fold. He saved my life once, so that also helps matters. I've really had so few scenes with James - which sucks for me, because I love to work with him." Joss Whedon interview about "Conviction" (by Abbie Bernstein) Actually, Joss says, moving Angel and co. to Wolfram & Hart was a creative decision, not a financial one. "I came up with this idea long before I found out we'd almost got canceled [at the end of Season Four]. One day, I just went, as I usually do in the middle of the season, 'Oh, I know what next season is - how does this sound?' No, it just felt so right. It wasn't about, 'Oh, we need to change.' And [Fox and The WB] never said 'Change your paradigm.' They said, 'We'd like things to be a little more stand-alone, because we want to bring in new viewers.' That was the one thing we got from The WB. All the changed that we made were mine." The WB was very happy to add Spike to Angel's fifth season, but Joss says actor James Marsters would not have joined the cast if Joss hadn't wanted him there in the first place. Going into discussing Season Five with The WB, "There were all sorts of deal-breakers. It was a tough negotiation. And that's between The WB and Fox, mostly. I was just, 'You know, let me know. We all want to do it.' I love Marsters. If they asked me to do something that was against the nature of the show, of what I have to say, I wouldn't do it. Like I said, we don't have to. We do it because we love it. "[James and I] talked about it when we realized tehre wasn't going to be another spin-off," Joss continues, "and then The WB came in and said 'We love that idea.' I wanted to stagger [Spike's return] and do it a little bit later in the season, to make it more of a surprise, because what I didn't want was to announce he was going to be on the show before I killed him on the other show. It kind of took the mystery out of it for some people. But I knew that James was coming back in one incarnation or another. It was during the second episode of Season Seven of Buffy when James said, 'I know you've got this beautiful death planned for me, but I really like working and this character. Can I come back? And I said, 'Okay.'" Victor Raider-Wexler (Hainsley from Just Rewards) interview (by Tara DiLullo) As Magnus Hainsley, Victor was a tricky first adversary for Angel and his new ghostly sidekick, Spike. Victor remembers it was interesting not only for him to get accustomed to the set, but also to watch his fellow leads, David Boreanaz and James Marsters, do the same with one another. "They work very differently and [James] was worried if he was going to be able to put himself in the Angel culture having come from Buffy. I found Angel to be a very friendly set, with a very nice crew and cast," he offers. <cut to later in the article> "They wanted him to be more overtly demonically evil than my choices," he continues. "But I had admired Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector and he is an example of a bad guy in great control, and it seemed to me Hainsley went that way. Once they made it clear to me, who the man was, they didn't interfere with me in how I presented him. There was also a lot of support both from James and David and the stuntmen around for the fight scenes." Simon Templeman (Pavayne from Hell Bound) interview (by Tara DiLullo) Pavayne spends just about the entire episode torturing Spike, so obviously Simon got to work closely with James Martsers for the shoot duration. "I had seen James before and I'd just thought, 'Oh, it's another Brit in town.' It was only when I met him that it turned out he's from California! I was so impressed. I was imagining he was from the north of London and I couldn't figure out why I hadn't come across him in the casting corridor," he shares. "Maybe my ear is going but if somebody is doing an English accent, often it's quite easy to spot it. It's something about the manner so I guess James is just very English." The intensity of "Hell Bound" was so strong that the episode ran with parental disclaimers before it aired in the States - a first for the series. Many scenes centered on the disturbing images and ghosts brought forth by Pavayne to torture Spike, making for some powerful moments for the actors. "I hadn't wokred with [James] before so it was nice to watch him work and see how he prepares. It was harder for James because there were so many changes. It was all broken up but it's played as one scene. His togs would come off and then he would be called to do something else, back and forth to his trailer. But James comes ready. He doesn't warm up slowly and get into it - he's just ready to go." <snip to part of interview talking about the fight scene at the end of the episode> "James is very good too," he continues. "It took me by surprise because he is really sharp on that stuff. You can tell he has done a lot of it. He is very proficient and very safe too. He got me through it, actually. I screwed my back up the week before [the shoot] and I thought 'This is all I need' but I didn't get hurt thankfully." Interview with Steven De Knight and Drew Goddard about 'Damage' (by Tara DiLullo) The idea for the episode came straight from Joss' braom. "Ever since the series finale of Buffy, Joss had always talked about a psycho slayer story - about a girl who was mentally unstable and suddenly got these slayer powers," Steve reveals. "It was always something in the back of his mind, and then he decided this would be a great time to do it because he also wanted to explore the different ways in which Angel and Spike feel about their past. Where Spike is very cavalier about what he has done, which is his coping mechanism, Angel is much more brooding about it." A dark episode all round, Steve even admits there was some trepidation in taking the powerful and positive nature of Buffy's gift at the end of 'Chosen' and twisting it in such a disturbing light. "There was a lot of concern about whether Buffy was culpable for this, and if it was her fault. My opinion, which was shared by other writers, was that she saved the world by doing this. Honestly, she wouldn't want anyone to be hurt, but if that happened I think she would consider it acceptable at that point. In saving the world, Anya and Spike died so there were people being sacrificed already." <snip> As for any favourite moments from the script, Steve offers, "In my section of the script, I enjoyed being able to write Andrew [Tom Lenk] again." Drew concurs adding, "He's like a Shakespearean clown just not written nearly as well! He is the fool that nobody listens to but is usually right." Steve continues, "On Drew's side of the script, I loved the final talk that Angel and Spike have in the hospital room, The 'Once Upon a Time' of it was just great, and Drew and I were both elated when Joss came in and said, 'I think she should chop off Spike's arms.' It was great! We did have a lot of talks about if we could do something like chopping arms off and have it believable, but the Wolfram & Hart situation made it a lot easier. Plus [special effects house] Zoic did a great effect with Spike's arms." The last we saw of Dana, she was being taken to England, but Steve reveals they planned to bring her back. "We were definitely talking about bringing Dana back in future seasons with Buffy and the Slayerettes trying to rehabilitate her. Her story fits right in with Angel and Spike." Eyal Podell (Lawson in 'Why We Fight') interview (by Tara DiLullo) "I had also never worked with prosthetics before," he continues. "It was great to get the opportunity to transform yourself in a mirror. I got to see James [Marsters] in his vamp make-up and some of the other characters, so I was excited about it. It makes you look mean and gives you a certain snarl." Cooped up in that sub with David Boreanaz and James Marsters, Eyal relveals he had a great time picking their brains about the show. "Mostly, I talked to them about the mythology. All the questions I had about the script, like how do you vamp or can vampires breathe under water? I wanted to have a full understanding of what the episode was about, so if I saw any place I could play something up then I had the knowledge to do it." He continues, "They were both a blast. They were very professional at first but once we had been working together for a while there was a good camaraderie and a great sense of humor and pranking. Watching James singing 'God Save the Queen' with a British accent or hearing David say his German line, which always cracked us up for some reason. They do their jobs well but like to have fun, which helped in those close quarters." Drew Goddard interview (by Matt Partney) Does the Prince of Lies have any specific significance? "The Prince of Lies was my brainchild!" Drew Goddard exclaims. "The origin of the name goes back to a Buffy episode I wrote [called 'Lies My Parents Told Me']. Drusilla is suggesting nicknames for a newly sired Spike [one of them being] Lucien, Prince of Lies. But David Fury, who directed the episode m cut it out. He cut out my Prince of Lies joke! It was all Fury's fault!" Ben Edlund and Drew Massey (the designer of puppet Angel) on Smile Time (by Matt Partney) Speaking of flying puppets, the Spike/Puppet Angel fight had to be the highlight of the episode. BEN: Oh that was cool. I think that's like the nitrous oxide boost in the episode. I think it goes fine up to that point, it works, but we don't really harvest the full-on energy of this joke until Puppet Angel starts kicking Spike's ass. [James Marsters] was rolling around on the floor. That was a big rug-burn day, I'm just assuming, for Mr Marsters. He threw himself into it. Y'know he was puppetting the puppet for a large part of that fight. DREW: I have to say I was really impressed the way James Marsters wrestled with the stunt Angel puppet. I gotta give him props. Usually when you give a rag doll to an actor, you thinkm 'Oh this is going to look horrible.' He totally sold that thing. BEN: For me, the most successful sht in the show is the one where Spike throws Puppet Angel up and he lands on his feet in the foreground, because that's puppet magic, baby! That was one gaga I made up and the rest is [Angel stunt coordinator] Mike Massa. Like all the cool fighting at the end wouldn't be anywhere near what it is without Massa.

Похоже, что этому быть - Джосс будет снимать третьих "Пиплов Хэ", если, конечно, утвердят окончательно: About a month ago, Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon publicly declared an interest in taking on the next X-Men movie now that Bryan Singer is makinf "Superman". Was someone at Fox listening? By Dave Davis Contributing sources: Production Weekly, Jason B. If the industry newscatcher Production Weekly is to be believed (and I'm told they're rarely wrong, if ever), ears were indeed open, and wise decisions were made. According to them, Whedon is onboard to direct X3, with the production gearing up in Vancouver next June. Of course, there's currently no script, and to the best of my knowledge no major talent has actually signed for the movie (and we know Halle Berry has little interest in returning unless she's in the spotlight). But Whedon certainly has a handle on the characters judging by his excellent run on Marvel's Astonishing X-Men series, and we know from his remarkable television work that he can juggle multiple characters, so it probably wouldn't be too difficult for him to whip up a fine screenplay (especially considering he worked on the first film's script). As a massive Whedon fan I know I'd be first in line to see it, but he's currently putting the finishing touches on Serenity, the feature follow-up to his space western series Firefly, so we'll see if he's got time for mutant mayhem. Another interesting superhero note: Production Weekly also lists (as rumored) Jim Caviezel as starring in Singer's Superman movie (subtitled Unbelievable). Only time will reveal thier prognostication skills, and if Millar or Knowles wins their bet. ----------- "Killing people is my job!"
